Thoughts On Bret "The Hitman" Hart

The group viewing of In Your House: Canadian Stampede (1997) prompted the video above. It's my theory that the main event of the show was the last truly happy moment in the business for Bret Hart. Watching it now is bittersweet as you realize that Owen Hart had passed within two years, and Bret was out of the company only four months later (as a friend pointed out).

That aside, it's a really great moment and a fun show overall. That crowd was one of the hottest I have ever seen in wrestling.

As a Bret and WCW guy, I was excited to see him go to that promotion. Much like "Macho Man" Randy Savage I thought he'd be a perfect fit there, but he was never utilized to the best of his ability. Set to feud with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair immediately wasn't a great idea, and him as an nWo lackey was even worse.

It's a shame how it all ended too, but unfortunately it feels like there are very few happy endings in the wrestling business.
