This entry is going to take a look at Burger King (where I was once employed for four years), Dairy Queen, and Zaxby's.
The Talking Fast Food Page has a link to all previous entries.
- Burger King - Due to my four years there I have a) eaten a ton of Burger King, and b) sworn it off for years and years.
I finally came back around to it though and it's pretty good. The meat really is flame broiled (on a conveyor belt but still)*, and the fries have changed what seems like a billion times since I worked there.
The Whopper is obviously the signature burger, but I'm a big fan of the bacon double cheeseburger. The fries that I mentioned before are currently what I would consider below average so I get onion rings as my side (if I can remember to order them).
French Toast Sticks are a fantastic breakfast item, but are wildly inconsistent depending on how long they sit and whether they came out of the fryer crispy or not. I was always a big fan of the Bacon & Cheese Croissan'wich too.
*Something you may have never noticed, but if you flip your burger patty over at BK you'll find that the bottom side of it has no grill marks if they put it on correctly. This is because you only get grill marks on side that touches the chain and they train us to put the grill marks up so you'll see them if you remove the top bun... the more you know!
(Usual Order: Bacon Double Cheeseburger with Onion Rings, and an Unsweetened Tea)
- Dairy Queen - This is one of those places that is as much about the dessert as it is the food. Let's start with the dessert. I typically get either...a Peanut Buster Parfait, a chocolate chip/cone dip Blizzard, or and Oreo Blizzard. As an aside, my sister says the new Cookie Jar Blizzard is great, and I want to try the Dreamsicle Dipped Cone.
That's pretty straight forward, but if you don't know what I mean by a cone dip Blizzard it is what you probably think of as a chocolate chip Blizzard. When you order a chocolate chip Blizzard though you sometimes get hard pieces of dark chocolate and that is terrible. How they typically make it is by breaking up that cone dip stuff that hardens in the Blizzard, and it is fantastic!
The burgers there are pretty underrated, but my go-to is the Chicken Finger Basket. I always act like I didn't go in there to order the gravy as the dipping sauce for the basket, but that's what I want...always. I just don't want to come off as TOO excited about it. It's a quality meal, but the dessert will forever be the draw.
(Usual Order: Chicken Finger Basket, Fries, and Coke)
- Zaxby's - This is a place that I will typically only eat at when someone else suggests it. The one near my work is in a HORRIBLE location as far as I'm concerned so that doesn't help.
I love cole slaw, but I thought I didn't like their slaw. I was wrong, and my wife gives me the slaw from her meal and it rules.
The fries are excellent if crisped up right, and the seasoning is a nice addition although it feels like mine have been under seasoned the last few times I've been. They are crinkle fries, and even if they aren't fried up perfectly they are pretty good.
Boneless Wing Meal is my go-to. Let me go ahead and tell you that I don't care that boneless wings are just chicken nuggets. They are good, and I enjoy eating them. I believe they come with some sort of sweet & sour sauce by default, but I get mine tossed in their Tongue Torch sauce which is really good.
(Usual Order: Boneless Wings w/ Tongue Torch sauce, Fries, Cole Slaw, and Unsweetened Tea)
