FFA: The Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks amazing streak has come to an end.  The New Orleans Pelicans knocked them off Monday night, but that makes winning 19 straight no less impressive.  What's really exciting is that Atlanta is fired up for the Hawks for the first time since they pushed the Boston Celtics to Game 7 back in 2008.  That Hawks team was nowhere near as good as this one appears to be though, but pushing the #1 seed in the East, Celtics to a Game 7 was exciting for a team that finished with a sub-.500 record.

Anyhow, the city is fired up for their HaWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWks as they were known on Twitter the night they lost to New Orleans.  See the gimmick there was after their winning streak started they added a W to their name for every consecutive win.  Well, the streak is over, but the excitement lives on.  Three Hawks were named to the All-Star Team (Al Horford, Jeff Teague, and Paul Millsap).  Kyle Korver is one heck of a three-point shooter and shooter in general and then DeMarre Carroll is our "glue" guy.  It's an exciting time to be a Hawks fan and while I am no hardcore basketball fan or analyst I enjoy following this team.  They buy into Coach Mike Budenholzer's team basketball concept and different guys step up night in and night out.

Although the streak is broken it doesn't feel like Atlanta's love affair with the Hawks will end anytime soon.  I mentioned that 2008 team, but this season really feels more like a throwback to the Dominique Wilkins seasons of the 1980s and that's a good thing.
