Who Should Roman Reigns Face At WrestleMania

Now that "The Big Dog" Roman Reigns is back, we need to think about who he should get paired up with at WrestleMania. There have been some rumors swirling about it, but I know exactly who I want to see.

Instead of teasing this until the end I am just going to come out and say it...

Roman Reigns should face Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35.

Does not seem like a satisfying choice to many Roman fans, and I appreciate why. The biggest complaint is that Corbin isn't a worthy opponent for Roman on the biggest stage of all.

I actually agree with that take in a vacuum, but in the context of this WrestleMania this year I think Corbin is the perfect pick.

To me, this Mania is not about a Mania-worthy match for Roman. This is not a Mania where he is or should be in the hunt for a top title. It would be absurd to do as some have suggested and insert him in the Universal Title match for example.

The story is there, but it's the wrong move. Let Seth Rollins slay "The Beast" Brock Lesnar and bring that title back to Raw. Keep Roman out of that scene altogether for right now.

The right move here is to give Roman Reigns a feelgood Mania moment, and beating the despised Baron Corbin convincingly early in the show is a great move for them.

This year isn't about the match, it's about the moment. That will be a fantastic moment and it doesn't matter even a little bit if the match is good (or even competitive). It doesn't matter that Corbin is not a Mania caliber opponent for Reigns.

All that matters is that Roman gets to walk that aisle, and stand tall against a guy the WWE Universe hates.

Corbin is the perfect pick for that moment.

As for the other options...
  • Dean Ambrose - I wouldn't hate this if a) Dean is still leaving and b) they just want to let two buddies have a match to send one of them off into the sunset. I don't love it, but I get it.

If you're talking about Dean turning heel to get to that point? Hard pass. That would be a complete failure to learn the lessons of this Dean/Seth Rollins feud. No one needs to see that.

  • Teaming with Dean Ambrose - Again not awful (like Dean turning heel would be), but I'd much rather see Roman in a singles match.

  • Drew McIntyre - This would be an awesome match, but I'd save it for down the road. Ideally I would have Drew take the Universal Title off of Seth Rollins, and then have Roman challenge him for it (assuming Roman isn't moving to SmackDown Live! on Fox which I think is a very likely scenario).
That's my issue with those three commonly suggested scenarios and it's why I think Baron Corbin is ABSOLUTELY the right move this year despite the issues people have with it.
