My Son's First Favorite Wrestling Memory: Mark Henry's Swerve

Someone mentioned this glorious moment on Twitter, and it reminded me how much my (now 11 year old) son loved it.

While Mark was in the ring giving his emotional promo you hear the crowd start chanting "HENRY! HENRY! HENRY!" at him. Well, my son did the very same thing standing in our living room. To this day it kills me I didn't get a pic or video of this, but it is what it is.

Anyhow, he was in full-on chanting for Mark Henry mode when the swerve happened, and my son FREAKED OUT!

It was weird because it wasn't even really negative, but he was just BLOWN AWAY by what happened. The part I will never forget so long as I live is my boy saying, "HE TRICKED HIM GOOD!"

The next best part was him describing this story to every single person he could think of who may even remotely care.

It made me a little jealous of him because I enjoyed the segment too, but he was me witnessing the Tully/Magnum/Dusty Baseball Bat Incident for the first time which Dad and I kept on VHS for YEARS.

Putting this segment aside even one of my favorite parts of watching WWE programming now (especially when it isn't terribly compelling) is getting to kind of witness it through pure eyes. It makes you appreciate the show differently as well as the more important aspect of spending time with my son like I did with my dad.

All that said, the Mark Henry swerve will forever be one of my favorite WWE segments. I wish he had won the WWE Title from Cena at some point, but it wasn't to be. My irritation with that is smoothed all the way over by the memory they gave me of my 6 year old son completely falling for it in our living room.

Life is good now, but I'd love to be able to go back and appreciate wrestling through younger eyes. This is as close as I will be able to get to that.
