ACTION Wrestling CEO, Matt Griffin On Founding His Promotion

ACTION Wrestling CEO, Matt Griffin, dropped a Tweet thread on us last night about the beginnings of ACTION, his experience in the business, what he's trying to accomplish in Tyrone, GA, and other things.

It's a really interesting read, and it highlights for me part of what makes ACTION so special to me. That is getting in on this promotion at its inception. I have never been a fan of any wrestling promotion from Day 1 so this is a really exciting time for me as well.

Anyhow, for the sake of sharing I have compiled and modified Matt's thread (@MattTheMouth).

It is posted below. If you would prefer to get the message straight from him then here is the beginning of the Tweet thread.

I hope you enjoy...

A few days ago was the first anniversary of the WildSide Reunion show from 9.9.17. This show in so many ways helped set the table for ACTION.

I'd always had in mind to promote wrestling going back years. I did promote an IPWA show in Mar 2000, but that was another life time ago.

WildSide was the main promotion from me. My first match was in late 2000 and I was there until the end in 2005. The reunion brought back a lot of memories, and I saw so many faces I hadn’t seen in many years. I performed in the Rumble which was so much fun, putting on the Mr. D tights again.

Just weeks later I had a chance meeting in my hometown with the rec director, who was familiar with wrestling as they booked shows for the town festival. A year later, and ACTION Wrestling has run 3 shows successfully, raised nearly $10,000 for our nonprofits and this year we are promoting the Festival show.

It's wild to have come so far so quickly and it feels like we have so much growth ahead. I don't want to rush it, not a bit, I want us to grow organically and have the demand there first. It's a wild ride and I'm so appreciative to everyone who has bought a ticket, sponsored, worked the shows, watched on Powerbomb.TV, bought a shirt or supported us in any way.

It's mind blowing thinking back a year ago I was happy just being in the ring again with friends White Trash (@CrazyCharlie615)got me with the STOP sign again!) and now I'm running shows. A huge part of me wishes this happened a few years earlier before so many of my peers hung it up. I would have loved to booked Tank (@Tank_Est1996). He’s someone who at the first SCI told me a memory that really stuck with me.

It is very cool to see AJ Styles on TV every week since I had the opportunity to wrestle him and saw him at the WildSide Reunion last year.

What this does is give me the opportunity to do is to promote new and upcoming talent that are hungry to succeed. It's hard not being able to book everyone nor pay what they are truly worth, but I'm trying to do the best I can and make ACTION a destination for wrestling.

There are lots of good promotions in Ga, and I want to be right there mentioned as one of the best in the state.
It's been a wild ride so far, and I am looking forward to where ACTION goes in the future. With Matt leading the way, along with his tremendous support staff, and obviously fantastic talent it's going to be really exciting.

If you're not a subscriber to Powerbomb.tv you can use promo code 'ACTION' for 20 free days. That's how I started my sub.
