He opened the show bantering with Raw GM Kurt Angle, and closed it by imploding a ring. His opponent, Big Show, was still flat on his back as they went off the air. His victim from last week, Roman Reigns, was nowhere to be found. The referee took an awesome bump to the outside of the ring.
Only one man stood tall, and it was BRAUN Freaking Strowman. His ascent to the top of the card in WWE has been fascinating, and exciting. He's unique. He's a thinking man's monster. When he backs down it doesn't come off as cowardice. His "I do what I want to do, when I want to do it" lines sound legitimate. Even the way he talks is different and completely works for him.
They have done an incredible job building him as the "Monster Among Men." More importantly, they have done an incredible job giving him an aura and a mystique. So much so that I think you take this opportunity and have him beat Roman Reigns at Payback.
BRAUN could absorb the loss without issue, but if you want to solidify him in that upper tier then I say you pull the trigger now. Then on the way to Mania 34 you've got the three true hosses of Raw going at it: BRAUN Strowman, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns.
I am looking forward to it, and it should be a wild ride. Here's how I put it on Twitter last night.
I am PSYCHED for the battle between lead face/lead heel Roman Reigns and lead heel/lead face BRAUN Strowman at Payback.— FreebirdSTF (@S_ATL_Wrestling) April 18, 2017
