Andy Kaufman: I Wish It Were True

A couple of times on social media I have kicked around the discussion of, "Which hoax/urban legend/conspiracy theory/etc. do you wish were true?" I am quite certain that I have offered different suggestions over the years, but I finally settled on one.

I want to believe that Andy Kaufman successfully faked his death. What I could never figure out was why that was. It finally dawned on me as a I drove to the office one day and this song came on the radio.

This version of the chorus is what drove it home for me...
Now Andy did you hear about this one
Tell me, are you locked in the punch
Hey, Andy are you goofing on Elvis, hey, baby?
Are you having fun?
If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon
If you believe there's nothing up his sleeve, then nothing is cool
Significant portion in bold there. Why do I want to believe that he pulled it off?  You've got two options here.

One is that Andy Kaufman pulled off one of the greatest pranks ever which adds just another layer to his legend.

The other option is that a horrible disease took yet another person far too soon.  See what I mean?

As an aside, I really enjoyed Jim Carrey's performance as Andy in "Man on the Moon."  Also one of my favorite wrestling figures is Jakk's Jerry "The King" Lawler and Andy Kaufman two-pack.
