Chris Jericho/CM Punk: Double turn?

Here are some things I know:
  • CM Punk is returning to WWE at Payback in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
  • Chris Jericho is his opponent.
Here are a few things I think I know:
  • Punk will receive a well-deserved hero's welcome in front of his hometown crowd.
  • The match will be excellent, but feels a bit "been there done that.
Here is what I believe:
  • The crowd will not be kind to Chris Jericho.
  • Chris Jericho's current character is not very compelling.
  •  Chris Jericho works much better as a heel.
To me, the only thing that makes sense at Payback is to have CM Punk embrace the face reaction and have Chris Jericho align himself with Paul Heyman. With Jericho's part-time schedule, history and general attitude he would be an excellent fit for Heyman's pseudo-stable. The motivation would be simple. Paul Heyman was frustrated that his client, CM Punk, "lost his smile" and conspired with Chris Jericho to destroy Punk in his own hometown. If done correctly you could have a legitimately hot angle on your hands. The main thing is that WWE cannot neuter face Punk. John Cena thought CM Punk was corny when he was feuding with John Laurinaitis. It was bad. They took everything that made Punk special, stripped it away, turned him into a watered down John Cena/Stone Cold clone and pushed him as their top face (in a sense, Cena never really lost that position). It was beyond stupid.

Again, if done correctly you could keep heat on Paul Heyman and reinvigorate too excellent performers in CM Punk and Chris Jericho. I do not see a better option than going with the double turn at Payback. I think it would make for excellent television.
