NWA invades RAW Is WAR

Who else remembers this? I had this all out of whack because I thought for some reason that Barry Windham appeared as the North American Champion. As you can see that is not the case. Not only that, but I recalled it being the blonde Barry Windham who appeared here. He clearly is still sporting the "New Blackjacks" look from his team with Blackjack Bradshaw.

Despite my "misremembering" as Roger Clemens might say, this is an interesting slice of wrestling history here.  You may also recall that the new Midnight Express (Bob Holly and Bart Gunn) also appeared on RAW feuding with the Rock N Roll Express.

Of course this angle went absolutely nowhere.  It is positively bizarre to see the NWA featured on WWE programming in the 90s.

  1. Barry did eventually appear as a blonde when he joined the NWA faction himself, which briefly consisted of BW, Jeff Jarrett, and the Rock n Roll Express, managed by Jim Cornette.

It would have been nice to see Morton and Gibson against the Road Warriors, or even for LOD to turn heel and join the NWA themselves.

I think WWE could have done much more with the angle, especially when they brought reigning NWA champion Dan Severn into the company, but there was probably a strong group with stroke backstage who never wanted to see these guys get over.

I think a Jarrett-Owen feud, coupled with a RnR EX-LOD feud and Severn-Shamrock rivalry could have carried the angle, and Cornette would have been there as the mouth-piece, and BW could have run interference.

It could have worked, but instead, it's an interesting piece of wrestling trivia.
