SmackDown "Blast from the Past"

Just finished up the live SmackDown "Blast from the Past" special. How was it? In two words: Not bad. Two more: Not great.

There were two segments that I really enjoyed, Daniel Bryan entering Piper's Pit and the Mark Henry/Randy Orton match.

Let's start with the highlight of the show, Piper's Pit. Basically, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper belittled Daniel Bryan and tried to encourage his ex-girlfriend to stand up for herself. Ultimately, she didn't, but Piper, Bryan and even AJ were all on point in this segment.

Mark Henry/Randy Orton wasn't anything special although it helps that I'm a huge fan of both guys. What I liked about it was that they continue to let Henry look strong while Orton lost nothing as the match had an inconclusive finish. The angle with Kane attacking "Cowboy" Bob Orton was well done in that there was a built-in reason to have "Cowboy" there tonight with the "Blast from the Past" theme. The beatdown put some heat back on Kane after the loss on last week's SmackDown. Also, it gives the feud a more personal reason to continue.

The WWE Legends were great to see as always. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes had a nice segment with Cody Rhodes. The best part? Cody playing the "You're embarrassing me" card.

The end fell flat and the main event of ADR/Bryan taking on Sheamus and "Mean" Gene Okerlund was silly, but it's always nice to see the old-timers having fun in front of the live crowd I suppose.
