How Edge saved John Morrison...

According to Wrestle Newz aka WNZ,* Edge's sudden retirement "saved" John Morrison.  Saved from what exactly?  I thought you'd never ask.  Some really smart, handsome internet poster started an epic thread on A1-Wrestling.com about Morrison's issues.

Many thought that would mean that Morrison would tumble down the card.  When R-Truth won a spot at Extreme Rules over John, it seemed that Morrison was getting his punishment.  Then Morrison was inserted back into that main event when Truth turned heel.  Why?  Well, there's a couple of reasonable theories behind that.  Actually, I'm sure there are more, but let's focus on these two.
  1. This whole thing was a huge non-issue that the WWE powers that be didn't care about
  2. Edge's sudden retirement created a void that Vince wanted filled.
I have zero idea what the real reason is, but WNZ's Marc Middleton says it boiled down to this:
A source indicates that Vince McMahon made the decision to put a spotlight back on Morrison once it was confirmed that Edge would be retiring. Vince felt that WWE needed a top babyface with an “exciting rock star” attitude like Edge had.
So in losing the Rated-R Superstar, Vince felt that he still needed a guy that fit that mold.  I guess the "One Man Rock Band" Heath Slater wasn't considered ready for primetime so Morrison's punishment was lessened.

If true, I think that's pretty wild and one heck of a break for JMo.  Is it true?  I don't know, but it's a good story if nothing else.

*Yes, that's an unfortunate name if you want to be taken seriously.
